The Flowlie Times #23
VC task automation; 10x angels; optimization vs speed; venture and Flowlie announcements.
Hi Friends,
This is Mike from Flowlie. This bi-weekly newsletter talks about VC & PE: from operations, tech, and tax advice to trends, notable guides, and news on recent capital raises. We hope you enjoy it and find some value!
3 articles and 1 video we learned from:
1️⃣ “This VC Is Slowly Automating His Job” - on how Yohei Nakajima, GP at Untapped Capital, automated his tasks. From answering common questions from founders to summarizing email interactions and crafting investment memos. What would you like Flowlie to automate for you?
2️⃣ “The 10x Angel. The 0x Angel.” - “I want to comment on what a “10x Angel” looks like – the type of individual investor who delivers value to the startup in ways that are notably different than the average funder.”
3️⃣ “Tool, Feature, or Product” - Short and concise self-reflection on whether you are building a tool, a feature, or a product. Everything has it’s own merits but ask yourself this too late at your own peril.
4️⃣ This video on dangers of premature optimization of software. In short: more efficient is sometimes not worth it.
3 venture announcements that caught our eye:
1️⃣ MindsDB, a startup that helps developers build AI applications even if they lack AI expertise, announced a $16.5 million Series A investment led by Benchmark. Are we in a bubble yet?
2️⃣ In our very own backyard, QuickNode, a Miami-based development platform for Web3 builders, raised $60 million in Series B funding. 10T Holdings led the round and was joined by Tiger Global, Seven Seven Six, Protocol Labs, QED, and others.
3️⃣ A fund, not a startup this time but Partech hits first close of largest Africa-focused fund, at €245M - “this year, African startups raised over $5 billion — or $6.5 billion, including debt financing — compared to the $1.16 billion recorded in 2018.”
