Today's reads
First and foremost, congratulations to the next president and CEO of Y Combinator - Garry Tan! If his name does not sound familiar… it should.
While Garry is having a great time, SPACs do not. “SPAC Activity in July Reached the Lowest Levels in Five Years”
TV is also not having a great time. Streaming viewership (Netflix, Hulu, etc) passed TV for the first time.
News from venture
First, if you thought that metaverse startups were over, think again. Ready Player Me raises $56M. Their product consists of dynamic avatars that you can use as you move from one game/metaverse to another.
In other news, two analytics startups - Anyscale and StarTree - announced their rounds. Anyscale raised $99M, the problem they address - “linking together the siloed computer and data technologies needed to build and run AI applications in a distributed system”. StarTree raised $47M, their promise - “analyze vast quantities of data in different formats and from different streaming data sources”.
