The Flowlie Times #12
How to measure the data, compensation report, Airbnb for boats, selling your purchase data, and more!
Hi Friends,
This is Mike from Flowlie. This bi-weekly newsletter includes the top articles about VC & PE, ranging from operations, tech, and tax advice to trends, notable guides, and news on recent capital raises.
We hope you enjoy it and find some value! If you do, make sure to share it with a friend.
Today's reads
Our main recommendation for this week is “Make Measurable: What Galileo Didn’t Say about the Subjectivity of Algorithms”. Through illustrative examples, Aidan Peppin outlines the importance of agreeing on what exactly we are measuring before adding any AI to it.
Our next recommendation is a compensation report by Carta. As always, it is full of informative charts ranging from remote hiring to geo-adjusting of payroll to terminations and more.
The last recommendation is “Can anything stop deepfake porn?” by Richard Morgan (Morning Brew team). Read more from how it originated to the difficulty of preventing it to potential solutions. Not all AI is used for good.
News from venture
If you feel like enjoying a day out on the water (at least I do) but don’t have a boat, you will be happy to hear about a $38M raise by Boatsetter. They are the Airbnb for boats. Pretty straightforward if you ask me.
Remember all the debate around data privacy and big tech? Pogo raised $14.8 million to make you feel better about sharing your data… by paying you for it.
Finally, Shares raises $40 million for a social investing app. You can think about it as “investing with your friends is more fun and profitable”. I like to think about it as “r/wallstreetbets going on a whole new level 🚀🚀🚀”.
Flowlie feature highlight
Today’s highlight is about… Flowlie team. I got a bit sentimental while reflecting on the amazing progress we have made over the last 1.5 years! While there is still a long journey ahead, cheers to the Flowlie team for everything so far!
